United States Military academy, USAFA is a military academy that has been set up for officer aspirants for the US Air Force. Located in Colorado, US, the academy is the youngest of all five service academies of United States. Its mission is to train, educate and inspire young men and women to make them officers of strong character and high motivation so as to lead the US Air Force proficiently and be of great service to the nation.

Honor Code

The first class of graduation in 1959 of the Academy developed an honor code which states:

“We will not lie, steal or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does.

Furthermore, I resolve to do my duty and to live honorably, so help me God”

Sprawling over 18,500 acres in the east of Rampart Range of the Rocky Mountains, The academy is perched at 7,258 feet or 2,212 m above the sea level in Colorado, US. Its vast campus area is sub divided and offers excellent space and activities for over all development of the cadets.

Cadet area

United States Air Force Academy Students

Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt Gen Michelle D. Johnson addresses cadets in Arnold Hall Theatre on January 6 2015 after their return from winter break.

Built around a square, large pavilion called Terrazzo, the buildings in cadet area are designed with modernity displaying extensive work of aluminum. Its most distinct building is 17-spired Cadet Chapel. Many other buildings constructed in the cadet area are Mitchell Hall, Cadets’ Dining Hall, Fairchild Hall, and chief academic building with classrooms, labs, research facilities, Robert F McDermott Library and faculty offices. It has two dormitories too named, Sijan Hall and Vandenberg Hall.

The campus is designed with many more facilities like Aeronautics Research Center, Consolidated education and Training Facility, CETF which is a house to biology and chemistry labs and classrooms, dental and medical clinics as well as astronautics and civil engineering labs, Cadet Social Center known as Arnold Hall, Observatory and Planetarium designed for navigation training and academic use and well developed sports fields areas and auditorium for extracurricular activities.

Air Academy High School

In United States Air Academy High School is the sole high school and has enrollment over 1300. With a rank in top-ten high schools in the state, it is not just excellent in imparting high-grade academic education but commendable sports training as well.

Military Training

Military training is given to the cadets throughout the session but it becomes rigorous during the four summers. Basic Cadet Training is given to the new cadets for six weeks in the summer before they are transferred into freshman year.

Freshman year or fourth-class year is the militarily hardest year at academy with heavy military practices in addition to difficult academic course to study. In this year, the students or cadets are given full military training for future. After first year, the cadets can go for specialization in military training during summers and learn flying gliders and undergo free-fall parachute training.


It is an accredited university that offers four years bachelors programs in various subjects. 70% of the faculty constitutes active-duty Air Force officers and rest dedicated civilian professors.


Academic achievement, strong athletic character and leadership qualities are the basis of students’ selection in the academy. Every aspirant has to undergo fitness test and through medical test for admission. In addition they have to get nomination from a Congress member of their home district.


It is mandatory for every cadet to participate in the rigorous athletics program of the school. Various programs and activities at the academy include:
