Military Schools in New York

New York is mostly called as New York City or the City of New York to distinguish it from the State of New York, of which it is a part. It is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York metropolitan area, the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States and is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York has a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment.

New York City came into existence in 1624 and was found by colonists of the Dutch Republic and was named New Amsterdam in 1626. The city and its surroundings came under English control in 1664. New York was the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790. It has been the country’s largest city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty is the largest attraction here.

When it comes to educating children, parents try to tap the best option. New York in itself is a big city and with wide opportunities. It similarly has many military schools as well.

Christian Brothers Academy

Christian Brothers AcademyChristian Brothers Academy is a private Catholic college for junior and senior high school only for boys. It was founded in 1859 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. It is located in the town of Colonies, New York near the Albany International Airport. This Academy is independently run by a board of trustees and is part of the Capital Region Independent Schools Association. The school is known for its academic and sports programs, and has gained numerous athletic titles.

Another Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) which is a private, Catholic college preparatory school is in suburban Syracuse, New York. It is located within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. The school is for seven to twelfth grade boys and girls. It was founded in 1900 by the Christian Brothers, who still run the school. CBA has a noted history of athletic achievement at the local and state levels; most recently, the varsity football team won the 2004 New York State Football Championship. The girls lead title in Swimming and Diving.

La Salle Military Academy

It closed in 2001, and the school’s extensive campus is now owned by St. John’s University located nearby in Jamaica, Queens. It was consistently one of the top ten military high schools in the country. Another benefit of it was that the Army assigned active duty personnel to conduct Military training.

It is a college preparatory school for day and boarding students of grades 8 to 12.  NYMA emphasizes in developing young leaders who are very enthusiastic to learn in college and in life. Its military model is based on string discipline. They are affiliated with the United States Army JROTC. Their approach is highly educational.

SUNY Maritime College

It was founded in 1874 and is federally approved, offering commercial nautical instruction and is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States. Its teams participate as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III, competing primarily in the Skyline Conference for the majority of its sports, as well as the ECFC for football, ICSA for sailing, and US Rowing for its rowing teams.

United States Merchant Marine Academy

It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 958, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 82 acres. It has a trimester-based academic calendar. Its ranking in the 2015 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Colleges (North) is 3. USMMA or Kings Point, is located in Kings Point, New York, about 20 miles east of New York City. It is one of the five U.S. service academies. Students are known as plebes. They undergo a two-week indoctrination program known as “Indoc,” which prepares them for the Merchant Marine Academy lifestyle. Upon entering the academy after Indoc, midshipmen can participate in a variety of clubs and organizations, including the Trident Scuba Diving Club, Glee Club, and Regimental Band. USMMA fields a number of men and women NCAA Division III athletic teams, and all students are expected to participate either in varsity, club or intramural sports.
