The academy was established in 1943. The institution commenced functioning by imparting training in make-shift arrangements before finally acquiring the present location in King’s Point. It took 15 months for the construction work to be completed and it was on September 30, 1943, that President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the academy to serve the Merchant Marine. Since then, the academy has had the privilege to serve and guard the nation in times of inconsistency including the Second World War.

The motto of the academy is “Acta NonVerba”, which emphasizes the importance of deeds over words. Upholding the virtue of service before self, the graduates of this academy are nurtured to serve the nation with the utmost integrity in times of peace and war. The maritime industry is truly vital to the economy of the nation. Therefore, the academy endeavors to chisel students into officers who add to the prosperity of the nation and keep the country’s flag soaring high.
