U.S Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) is an exemplary platform that educates and trains students to graduate as highly proficient Merchant Marine officers ready to serve the nation in civil or defense domains. It falls under the subhead of the United States Service Academies. The academic structure of the institution is highly rigorous and thereby calls for more input and hours in comparison to any other Federal service academy. Apart from intellectual know-how, the curriculum also caters to an annual sea experience that furnishes practical exposure to students. It is mandatory for all graduates to serve a five-year span either in the United States maritime industry or in one of the armed forces.

Since then, the academy has had the privilege to serve and guard the nation in times of inconsistency including the Second World War.
The motto of the academy is “Acta NonVerba”, which emphasizes the importance of deeds over words. Upholding the virtue of service before self, the graduates of this academy are nurtured to serve the nation with the utmost integrity in times of peace and war. The maritime industry is truly vital to the economy of the nation. Therefore, the academy endeavors to chisel students into officers who add to the prosperity of the nation and keep the country’s flag soaring high.
