The school was established as Bloomfield Academy in the year 1836 with a mere strength of 6 students. The school acquired its present location in the year 1840. The institution was bestowed its present title in the year 1916 by its owner Theodore K. Long in the memory of his deceased son. The school today houses the potential to train a maximum of 180 cadets.

The academy endeavors to impart educational excellence and inculcate strong virtues of character amongst its students. The competent faculty provides cadets with guidance to evolve as responsible and laudable leaders and citizens of the nation.

Covering an enormous area of 60 acres, this institution is one of its kind in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. The building housing 5 dormitory structures is home to 85 percent of the staff members. The school library has a rich repertoire of 6500 books and reference material supporting the intellectual learning of cadets. The library also has 7 computers to facilitate assignment completion. The school infirmary is well equipped to help students in need of first aid or over the counter medications.

The institution offers a 5 day or a 7 day boarding program for students. While the former provides time to be with the family on weekends, the latter is canvassed as an option by the authorities to promote sense of independence and accountability amongst students. Day school programs are also offered for families residing in the vicinity of the school location. The tuition fee ranges from $17,000 to $35,000 on an annual basis. The school also provides financial aid to truly eligible families. Decision pertaining to granting of aid rests in the hands of the school authorities after verification of necessary facts.

Carson Long furnishes a platform for students to acquire high learning skills in the subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Humanities, Computer Science, Physical Education, Bible, Speech and Political Geography. In order to accomplish fruitful and holistic learning, the ratio of facilitator to student is maintained at 1:9. The secret of success lies in the small size of the class strength illustrated by a maximum of 13 cadets. This limited class allows the faculty to concentrate on the individual needs of students. Over the years, records of the school highlight that 80 percent of the pass outs move onto higher education. The rest opt for the military or other employment sectors.

Carson Long Military Academy Athletics

Physical Education and JROTC training is mandatory for all cadets. This type of training aims to inculcate leadership and self discipline qualities amongst cadets. The motto of the JROTC department is to impart life skills so that cadets become better citizens of the nation. The school also has clubs motivating the musical and writing aptitudes in students. Those interested in sports have the opportunity to participate in football, soccer, wrestling, tennis, hockey and lots more.
