Massanutten Military Academy (MMA) serves through enlightening and educating the youth of today so that it paves way for a better future. A cadet’s experience at the academy is bound to be enriched with innovative skills and all-round knowledge. The coeducational school prepares young bodies and minds to be sharp and matured. Right from grades 6-12, cadets are groomed with systematic training devised to gear them up for college and life in general. Students are also offered one year post-graduation courses. Teaching programs are customized to every child’s capabilities. This helps compensate their deficiencies.

Military programs were adopted by Massanutten Military Academy only in 1917. Prior to that, it was a regular college preparatory school for boys and girls. It was founded in 1899 and expanded its construction plan over the decades. The conversion of the academy into an all boys’ school was followed by the introduction of the military education model. The then school president felt that discipline values the new system portrayed would cultivate gentlemen like qualities.
As of now the school enrolls girls and boys and equips them with military- style training and a JROTC unit.
With regular monitoring of the cadets advancements and delivery of performance reviews at the end of each semester, improvements can be made in teaching and learning. The Academy believes in promoting unity, respect, communication skills and progressive ranks.

Massanutten Military Academy is located in Woodstock Virginia. It houses 120 cadets in total and spread over 40 acres. Boarding facilities are available for students to live on the campus. Separate dorm facilities are provided for girls and boys.
Dorm rooms are accompanied by game room for after school recreation and a common lounge area. The Academy features basketball and volleyball courts, football field, fitness and technology centers and an indoor pool.

A step by step admission process on the school website allows cadets to easily enroll. Admission forms can be downloaded from the website for $50. Once the applicant’s forms are reviewed, the outcome of the decision made by the review committee is informed to each candidate.
Different tuition price schemes apply to U.S. residents, International students and Summer School cadets. Tuition rates are subject to change as the year progresses. The amount for U.S. residents and citizens is $31,900 and $8,400 for boarding and day students respectively. International student tuition is $31,500; and Summer School tuition is $2,500. A two-week STEM summer camp works up to $1,750 for boarding and $1000 for day students. Financial aid is available for those in need of it.

The teacher to student ratio at MMA is 1:8 which allows program officers to keep tabs on each student’s development. Each class has 10 students. A total of 6 Advanced Placement courses assist the students.
Regular teaching subjects comprise of English, history, foreign languages, science, computer studies, social science, philosophy, music and performing and visual arts. Special programs include JROTC, community service, rifle team and leadership. MMA helps post graduates obtain college credits and leadership training.
Extra-Curricular Activities / Athletics
A massive platform is provided to youngsters in performing arts, language, and sports. The bagpipe team and drum corps partake in school parades and competitions. The drama club and visual arts programs support student productions and recitals. Aerobics, camping, hiking and martial arts are some other recreational activities.
Sports education embraces multiple games and exercises. Drill team, basketball, baseball, swimming, soccer, rugby, volleyball, wrestling and cross country are just a few.
